From the moment I graduated and left high school I knew I was ready for something different and more meaningful for my life. Never in a million years did I see the change that would come in the next year; the transition from a timid girl hiding her nose in novels and only dreaming about having a place to make a difference in this world to a girl who is actively seeking that ability to make a difference and someone who is thriving to become changed. It all started with the best kept secret in Texas, Tarleton State University, and one very special student ministry, the Tarleton Wesley Foundation. For an English Literature major I find almost embarrassing to admit that I struggle to find words to explain how these two places have impacted me so deeply. Tarleton helped me realize my love for service. The Wesley helped me understand what that means, to serve, to give willingly and selflessly. I fell in love with the Wesley from the very first worship service, how the service was student led with a praise band made of students just there to worship their God, and the pastor who's message was relatable and realistic and thought provoking. I was hooked by the second week. Before I could realize, I was meeting them for coffee and discussion, joining the leadership team and volunteering to run a bible study. Each of these things led up to something I never could have expected. God has blessed me with the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of servant leadership and to explore my interest in ministry through an internship at the Wesley. Pastor David Mcminn has already taught me so much and my heart is so full at the idea of working with him and the other staff members to grow the Wesley and to grow myself. This is just the beginning; welcome to my story.
